Turkey’s National Biodiversity Coordination Committee

The world’s biological resources are vital to the economic and social development of humanity. In 1996, Turkey became a party to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which aims at the protection of biological diversity, the sustainable use of biological resources and the fair and equitable sharing of resources from the use of genetic resources.
Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity will be held in Turkey in 2022. Turkey will assume the rotating presidency of the years 2022-2024. The National Biodiversity Coordination Board-Board was established under the chairmanship of the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in order to monitor global developments, to bring biological diversity into the economy in a sustainable manner and to carry out the Convention and presidency effectively.
The Board is composed of the highest level representatives authorized to decide on behalf of the following institutions.
The Board meets at least once a year. The working principles and procedures of the Board shall be determined by the Board. Secretariat services and coordination of the Board are carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Sub-boards, technical committees, advisory and working groups can be formed if needed for the work of the Board. In addition to the relevant public institutions and organizations, universities, civil society representatives, professional associations and private sector representatives may be invited to board meetings. The necessary support and assistance will be provided by all public institutions and organizations in order to carry out the work of the Board in integrity and to ensure coordination.
